FADE IN:

INT. IFF LOBBY - DAY

MRS. MARSDEN is sitting at her desk the exterior door opens and a DELIVERY MAN comes in and up to the desk. He hands the clip board to Mrs. Marsden.

DELIVERY MAN

(perplexed)

I have a delivery for a Mr. Stetson at I.F.F.

Mrs. Marsden is looking at the clipboard then signs for the package.

MRS MARSDEN

Mr. Stetson is unavailable, you can put the package on the desk.

DELIVERY MAN

Ah.. the package is still in the truck.

The delivery man leaves then shortly returns with the "package", a large gift basket. He places it on the desk. Mrs. Marsden looks in the basket and immediately picks up the phone.

CUT TO:

INT. FILM LIBRARY - DAY

AMANDA and LEE are sitting at their desks going through some case files.

AMANDA

Joe is picking the boys up at six o'clock tonight.

LEE

So, what does Joe and the boys have planned?

AMANDA

They're going camping for the weekend… And mother's going to be at her sisters for the whole week.

Amanda looks up at Lee and raises her eyebrows mischievously.

LEE

Ah, looks like we have the weekend to ourselves.

Lee gets up and walks over to Amanda's desk. Picks up her hand and gently kisses it.

LEE (cont'd)

(seductively)

And I know just how we can spend it…

Lee is interrupted by the phone ringing. Amanda picks it up.

AMANDA

International Federal Film… Just a minute.

She hands the phone to Lee.

AMANDA (cont'd)

(curious)

It's Mrs. Marsden..

LEE

This is Stetson…

Delivery… I'll be right down.

Lee looks puzzled as he hangs up the phone.

LEE (cont'd)

(confused)

Mrs. Marsden said a delivery came…

AMANDA

C.O.D.-E? What's that suppose to mean?

Lee walks over to the door, hand on knob he turns back to Amanda.

LEE

(puzzled)

I've never heard of it before.

AMANDA

Isn't it some type of code?

LEE

If it is, I haven't gotten the memo on it..

Amanda, why don't you to come down with me? It's almost lunch time anyway, we could pick up a bite to eat…. Say, at my apartment?

Amanda gathers her purse and follows Lee out the door.

CUT TO:

INT. IFF LOBBY - DAY

Lee and Amanda descend the staircase with a casual banter about restaurants. (ad lib) Lee approaches the desk as Mrs. Marsden hands him the note.

LEE

What the…

Mrs. Marsden points to the basket sitting on the desk.

MRS MARSDEN

(disgusted)

This is yours… Mr. Stetson.

Amanda and Lee look into the basket at the same time. Lee looks up at Amanda shocked.

LEE

(shocked and in denial)

No… Can't be…

AMANDA

(shocked and wounded)

Lee, this is not the time nor the place for this…

Amanda reaches in the basket and picks up a baby about 18 months old. She hands the baby to Lee.

AMANDA (cont'd)

I think we should take this "delivery" back to your apartment.

LEE

(still in shock)

Yeah, sounds like a good idea.

It can't be mine….

Mrs. Marsden, tell Billy I'm taking the rest of the day off.

Amanda picks up the basket and points the way. Lee juggles the baby as he opens the door.

FADE OUT:

EXT. LEE'S APARTMENT - AFTERNOON- ESTABLISHING

Lee's silver Corvette is parked out front. Amanda's Jeep behind him.

CUT TO:

INT. LEE'S APARTMENT - AFTERNOON

Lee is pacing back and forth behind the couch. Amanda is changing the baby's diaper.

LEE

(perplexed)

Honest Amanda… there is no way this baby could be mine.

AMANDA

(consoling)

Lee.. this baby is over a year old. He was born right around the time we started dating… He could be yours.

Amanda hands the baby to Lee. She picks up the note from the basket and walks over to the counter to pick up a baby bottle.

AMANDA (cont'd)

He needs a name, we can't keep calling him baby.

LEE

(reserved then smiling at the baby)

I don't know… he is kind of cute, isn't he?

Amanda looks up at Lee who is now bouncing the baby in his arms. Lee looks like he is getting a little attached to the tyke.

AMANDA

(smiling)

All babies are cute… Let's see… the note read C.O.D.-E . What could that mean?

Lee sits down on the couch with the wiggling baby. Looking at Amanda who is trying to decipher the note.

LEE

(annoyed with himself)

I don't know… I am not even sure who the mother is or who she could possibly be…

Amanda looks up from the note at that remark.

AMANDA

Excuse me!

LEE

Bad choice of words.. What I mean is there were so many women…

Lee cuts himself off short.

AMANDA

(in mock anger)

Your digging yourself in deeper Scarecrow!

LEE

(sighing)

What I really mean to say is that every woman I dated… never measured up to you. You, Amanda Stetson, were the only woman in my mind… even back then.

Amanda walks back over to the couch and sits down next to Lee. She hands the bottle to the baby.

AMANDA

Now what do we do?

She leans her head on his shoulder. Lee wraps his arm around her.

LEE

First thing in the morning, we get a paternity test. But for now, what do we call him.

AMANDA

(thinking)

Why not Cody? It's what it says on the note.

Lee takes the note from Amanda.

LEE

I didn't see that on the note… Cody..

Oh, I get it. That will be perfect name for him.

Lee puts Cody on the floor and takes Amanda in his arms.

LEE (cont'd)

Amanda, I love you…

AMANDA

I love you too, Lee.

LEE

What are we going to do if we can't find his mother?

They both look down at the baby crawling on the floor.

FADE OUT:

INT. IFF LIBRARY - MORNING

Lee is pacing nervously around the room. Amanda is watching him from her desk.

AMANDA

Lee, pacing is not going to make the test results come any faster…

…Sit down, I know the waiting is driving you crazy. But your pacing is making me nervous.

LEE

(uneasily)

I know, I know… but I can't help it…

Lee sits on his desk looking at his wife shuffling files, not really paying attention to them.

LEE (cont'd)

Amanda… What are we going to do if he's mine? We just got married… and we don't see enough of each other as it is.

AMANDA

I don't know… What are we to do?

…You know I love you Lee. Cody won't ever change that.

LEE

(seriously)

I never even thought about having children… not until I met you..

Amanda blushes at the comment. Just then the desk phone rings. Lee jumps and grabs the phone.

CUT TO:

INT. AGENCY LAB - MORNING

A MALE LAB TECH sits at a desk, thumbing through test results phone to his ear.

MALE LAB TECH

(matter of fact)

It's 99.995 percent accurate Lee… Your not this baby's father.

LEE (O.S)

Are you sure? I mean there was no problems with the tests?

The tech juggles more test results as a FEMALE LAB TECH hands him another stack of papers.

MALE LAB TECH

Yes, I'm sure. The tests were done twice for accuracy.

I need a copy of the test results.

MALE LAB TECH

Ok, I'll have a copy made and send it up to your office as soon as I can…

..But Lee, there are a couple of other tests still running.

LEE (O.S.)

(irritated)

MALE LAB TECH

Good by Scarecrow.

The Lab tech hangs up the phone. Turns to the female lab tech.

MALE LAB TECH

You'd think he would be grateful…

INT. IFF LIBRARY - MORNING

Lee hangs up the phone stunned yet relieved about the news. Amanda is watching him in suspense.

AMANDA

Well…

LEE

The lab..

Lee rises and begins to pace back and forth again. Amanda gets up and stands in front of Lee. She places her hand on his chest stopping him.

Please Lee, it's not helping the situation. What did the lab say?

LEE

(serious)

They said it was 99.995 percent accurate that I am not Cody's father.

AMANDA

Disappointed?

LEE

A little, I guess..

I was beginning to like the idea..

Lee hugs Amanda kissing her forehead.

AMANDA

Whom ever the mother is… she knows who you work for. She must have been in trouble to leave her baby with you for protection. A mother wouldn't just abandon a baby for no reason.

Breaking their embrace, Lee looks around his desk for the note that was left with Cody.

LEE

Let's see what we can come up with from this. She had to leave me some clue.

Amanda is sitting at the dressing table in her nightgown looking in the mirror. Sitting on the dressing table is a box and some folded papers.

AMANDA

(shocked)

LEE (O.S.)

Amanda!

Amanda hurriedly shoves the box and contents into a drawer.

AMANDA

(hurriedly)

In here Lee…

Lee enters the master bedroom looking at some files in his hands.

Amanda, I think I might have figured out who Cody's mother is…

Lee looks up to see a shaken Amanda.

LEE (cont'd)

…What's the matter?

AMANDA

(flustered)

What's the matter.. Nothing's the matter…

So.. you might know who Cody's mother is?

LEE

There you go again, repeating my questions. Amanda, I know something's wrong.

AMANDA

(composing herself)

Nothing's wrong…

She stands up and goes to Lee who is standing just in the doorway.

AMANDA (cont'd)

I promise, nothing is wrong. So, who's Cody's mother?

LEE

(suspiciously)

Okay, I've narrowed the list down to only a few women that knew I work for the Agency.

Lee hands the list to Amanda. Amanda is grateful the conversation has changed.

…Lee, we have to make a shorter list. This one looks like it came from 'who's who in Washington D.C.'

She looks up at Lee who is watching her.

LEE

I know… we'll just have to start eliminating names…

INT. KING HOME FAMILY ROOM - LATE

Amanda and Lee are sitting on the couch going over a new shorter list. Covering the coffee table are lists and papers. Just off to the side is a playpen with Cody sleeping. Frustrated Lee places the list back on the table and leans back running his hand through his hair.

LEE

Damn it Amanda, I don't think we are getting anywhere with this…

Amanda still going through the papers stops and looks at her husband. Sighing she lays back against Lee. He wraps his arms around her.

Lee… we are narrowing the list down. It won't be much longer and we should have this figured out.

LEE

I know… It's just that if she was in trouble, she probably needs our help now.

Amanda looks at the shortened list.

AMANDA

(quizzical)

Lee… What if C.O.D.-E is a title not a name? We know it's not Cash on Delivery. Who would that leave?

LEE

COD-E… Well COD could stand for the Commissioner of Defense. But that title is currently held by Colonel. James M. Lippincott.

Lee looks at Amanda with a sudden realization. He sits up and grabs some papers off the table.

LEE (cont'd)

Oh my God…

Amanda... the E stands for Eana, his daughter. We dated a few times before Leslie.

AMANDA

Do you know how to reach her?

LEE

No… she moved, that’s why we stopped seeing each other.

Amanda looks over at the sleeping baby then back to Lee. Amanda gently touches his hand as the phone rings.

LEE

Don't pick it up.

Lee places his hand on hers stopping her from getting up.

AMANDA

It could be Mother or the boys… I have to get it.

Lee sighs, removes his hands as Amanda gets up and answers the phone.

AMANDA (cont'd)

Hello.. Mr. Melrose…yes, Lee is here. Just a minute.

Amanda hands the phone to Lee. He gives Amanda a disgusted look as he takes the phone.

LEE

Billy… It's the weekend… Okay, Amanda and I will be in the office, in about half an hour.

Lee hangs up the phone and turns to Amanda.

A body has just washed up in the Potomac River.

What does a body being found have to do with the Agency?

LEE

Billy said it was priority one, and he would explain everything when we got there.

Amanda looks over at Cody sleeping. Lee follows her gaze.

AMANDA

Let me call Mrs. Melrose and see if she will watch Cody for us.

CUT TO:

INT. IFF - BILLY MELROSE'S OFFICE - NIGHT

BILLY is sitting at his desk. FRANCINE, Lee and Amanda are present sitting in chairs.

BILLY

As you already know, a body was found in the Potomac tonight. She's the daughter of Colonel James M. Lippincott. Commissioner of Defense.

Amanda looks over at Lee who is shocked by the news.

LEE

Are you sure Billy?

BILLY

Yes, she's been positively identified as Eana Lippincott.

BILLY

Scarecrow, you've been pulled in on this one since you used to date her.

FRANCINE

It seems our very own Scarecrow gets around… Who hasn't he dated?

Lee gives Francine a dirty look at that remark. Amanda and Billy watch the exchange.

LEE

That was a long time ago Billy.

BILLY

I know, but you’re the only one who knew her.

LEE

Yeah… It looks like she remembered me too.. She sent me a "package" yesterday.

BILLY

Is that the "package" that has the whole office gossiping?

LEE

The one and only… But he's not mine Billy..

Lee looks at Francine then at Amanda for support.

The paternity test was conclusive! I'm not his father.

BILLY

Looks like this one just became personal for you Scarecrow. Where's the baby now?

AMANDA

He's at your house sir. Jeannie was delighted to watch him for Lee.

Billy looks a little shocked but regroups. Lee reaches over to hold Amanda's hand.

BILLY

Okay then, you two see what you can find out about the late Ms. Lippincott's last few days. Francine and I will look into what her father has occurring.

Francine, Lee and Amanda rise to leave the room. Francine opens the door to leave.

BILLY (cont'd)

Lee.. Could I see you alone for a minute?

Lee looks at Amanda and shrugs. Then walks back to Billy's desk.

LEE

Sure Billy, Amanda, I'll meet you in the Q-Bureau when I am finished.

Amanda follows Francine out the door.

Lee looks out the window into the bullpen, awkwardly.

I understand. For now well keep it quiet.

INT. IFF - FILM LIBRARY - NIGHT

Amanda is sitting at Lee's desk working on the computer. Nervously she checks the time. The door opens and Francine comes in.

FRANCINE

Amanda, I'm looking for a file on Junto.

AMANDA

(preoccupied)

It should be in the filing cabinet Francine.

FRANCINE

(condescending)

Of course.

Francine doesn't move but watches Amanda intently.

AMANDA

(annoyed)

What do you "really" want Francine?

FRANCINE

I can't imagine Scarecrow taking care of a baby. He must have dumped him on you to take care of, since you are very experienced in that.

AMANDA

Lee does okay. He can change a diaper like a pro.

With that Francine leaves the Q-Bureau. Lee looks at Amanda, Lee sits on his desk next to her.

AMANDA

So what did Billy want?

LEE

Well, let's just say, he can keep a secret.

AMANDA

(stunned)

He figured most of it out himself.

AMANDA

(smiling)

Oh, he did, did he!

Lee leans down and kisses Amanda.

INT. EANA'S APARTMENT BUILDING- DAY

Lee and Amanda knock on the front door of apartment number 15. Down the hall a door opens and a neighbor peaks out carefully. Seeing Amanda and Lee, the neighbor slams the door shut fast.

AMANDA

What was that all about?

LEE

Will just have to make a neighborly visit after we check out Eana's apartment.

Amanda reaches out and tries the locked door knob. Lee pulls out his lock pick set and continues to unlock the door. Upon opening the door, the small apartment is in shambles.

LEE

Looks like were not the first ones here.

AMANDA

Yeah, I don't think we will find anything here now. Do you think they found what they came for?

LEE

Let's just take a look around and see what we come up with.

AMANDA

(teasing)

What are we looking for.. Oh, don't tell me, I know, I'll know it when I find it.

Lee begins looking around the room.

INT. EANA'S KITCHENETTE -DAY

Amanda goes into the kitchenette. Every cupboard is open every drawer turned over. Everything dumped out of their containers. The only thing not touched is the clock on the wall. Amanda looks up at it quizzically.

AMANDA

Lee, what time is it?

LEE (O.S.)

It's eleven thirty five. Why?

Lee, come in here. I think I have found something.

Lee walks into the kitchenette, Amanda is staring at the clock on the wall. The time is still the same.

LEE

Amanda, what are you staring at?

AMANDA

Lee, look at the clock. It hasn't changed time since I've been in here.

LEE

So, the battery must be dead.

AMANDA

(in one breath)

No, see there... the cord to the outlet. Any cook who has a clock in the kitchen uses it for timing when cooking food. So, if the clock isn't working, either she doesn't cook or there's another reason for the clock not working. Lee, get the clock down for me.

Lee reaches up to remove the clock from the wall. As he turns the clock over there is a hidden compartment.

LEE

Good catch, Amanda. I probably wouldn't have thought about it.

Lee pries open the compartment. Hidden inside is a bunch of papers and some keys.

AMANDA

Looks like these belong to a lock box.

LEE

Eana had an account at the Stewart Levitte Savings and Loan. I think that key might work there.

An older scruffy looking MAN appears behind Amanda and Lee. Holding them at bay with a bat.

MAN

(southern hick accent)

Hol' it right there. What are you two doin' in Eana's apartment?

Lee turns drawing his gun. Amanda moving to be behind him. The man is waving the bat in the air.

Who are you?

MAN

(gruff)

I asked the questions around here. What did you do to Eana's stuff.

Amanda slips the keys and papers into her purse. Lee pulls out his badge.

LEE

We work with the government. I was a friend of Eana's.

The man drops the bat and looks closely at the badge.

MAN

Oh, is Eana in trouble? I haven't seen her around here for a while… Not since that man attacked her.

AMANDA

What man? When was she attacked?

Amanda looks at Lee as he puts his gun back in the holster.

MAN

It was sometime about two weeks ago. He was a big man, dark hair, tan skin. Looked like he worked in the sun a lot. She told me that he wanted somethin', I'm not sure what, he had her real scared though.

AMANDA

When was the last time you seen her?

MAN

I don't recollect! Maybe about a week ago.

LEE

Did Eana have a steady boyfriend?

MAN

If she did she didn't bring him around here. She didn't bring many people around here.

LEE

Did Eana have a baby with her?

MAN

Yeah, a cute little critter. Haven't seen him either.

AMANDA

Thanks. If you remember anything call this number.

Amanda hands a piece of paper with a phone number on it to the man.

CUT TO:

INT. BANK - DAY

Amanda is sitting at a desk talking to the Bank account manager, MR. RICHARDS. Lee is sitting next to her. They are dressed very nice. Amanda is twisting her huge diamond wedding ring around her finger.

AMANDA

(Rich Southern Accent)

Yes sir.. Mr. Richards, my husband here suggested this bank on account of his Great Aunt Edna's, brother's, mother-in-law's niece. Oh, she gave this bank such a great recommendation, I hope it lives up to that recommendation. I just can't entrust my jewels to just anyone, and since I am going to be here for an undetermined amount of time, I simply, must have a safe place for my jewels.

LEE

Nothing's too good for my wife. She deserves the best.

AMANDA

Oh darlin'.

Lee pats Amanda's hand. Mr. Richards is enthralled by Amanda and the flashy jewels.

MR. RICHARDS

Mrs. Morton, I assure you that this bank will exceed all your expectations. I can begin the paperwork now for you and with in just a few minutes you can have your jewels safely locked up in our vault.

AMANDA

I do hope I can entrust my dear Great Grandmother Harris's broach to your care.

Amanda picks up a pen and turns to Lee.

Peter, I think Great Grandmother's broach will be safe here don't you?

LEE

Yes, I do darling. Anything, anything my Ellen wants, she gets.

MR. RICHARDS

Just sign here. And I will get you the key to your box.

Mr. Richards gets up and takes the paperwork with him. Amanda and Lee play the part of dotting socialites. Mr. Richards returns shortly with the key.

MR. RICHARDS (cont'd)

Let me escort you to the vault. Mr. and Mrs. Morton. Just follow me.

CUT TO:

INT. BANK VAULT - DAY

Lee checks out the room as Amanda waits for Mr. Richards to get the box down. He sits the box on the table inside, then leaves. Amanda opens her purse and pulls out the additional keys and jewel boxes.

AMANDA

(whispering)

Key numbers 214 and 215. Lee, how are we going to get the boxes.

LEE

There's only one camera. Let me see if I can disrupt the signal for a moment.

INTERCUT - BANK VAULT/GUARDS DESK CAMERA MONITORS

Lee pulls out a small black box with a button. Disrupting the signal. A security guard notices the disruption on the camera monitor. The GUARD picks up a radio to notify another security guard. Amanda finds the boxes and pulls them out. Quickly opening them, she dumps the contents into the new open box on the table.

CUT TO:

INT. BANK VAULT - DAY

Amanda hands each box back to Lee who carefully puts them back. Lee turns off the disrupting signal as a GUARD comes in the door.

GUARD

How's everything in here? Do you need any assistance?

AMANDA

No sir, Were just about finished.

Amanda straightens the items in the box. As the guard looks around the room Lee is standing by Amanda patiently waiting for her to finish.

GUARD

I'll be outside if you need any assistance, Madame. Sir.

LEE

How kind to offer your assistance, thank you.

Amanda removes the papers as Lee blocks the camera's view briefly. She shuts the box lid as she stuffs the papers in her purse. Lee picks up the box and places it back in it's numbered slot.

Ready darling?

AMANDA

Yes Peter, my jewels are safe and sound. Shall we..

Lee leads Amanda out the vault door. The guard comes back in to check the vault. All looks normal.

INT. IFF LIBRARY - DAY

Amanda is at her desk going through the papers from the bank. Lee is sitting at his desk on the phone. Lee hangs up the phone.

AMANDA

Lee, have you heard of Jingo Jakra?

LEE

Isn't that a small Island?

AMANDA

I think so. I have a whole bunch of papers with that name listed. There's even one listing a King Arek Zavar. What would a King have to do with Eana?

Lee approaches Amanda's desk to look over the papers with her.

Amanda handed a bunch of papers to Lee, for him to go through. Amanda rises and goes in to the vault.

LEE

Amanda… I think we've found what they were looking for.

AMANDA

Yeah, but now Cody is in danger. I'll have Francine get a hold of the Jarkarian Ambassador.

I'll give Jeannie a call and find out how Arek is doing. It's got to be hard on the little guy. I bet he misses his mother terribly.

Lee, Amanda, Francine and Billy are discussing the progress of the case.

FRANCINE

Ambassador Atol said that there has been three assassination attempts in the last two weeks on the King.

BILLY

Does King Zavar know about the boy?

FRANCINE

The Ambassador didn't mention anything about any heirs.

LEE

Where's the King now?

BILLY

The King is flying in for an Economical Trade Symposium on Friday. He's wanting to market the Islands National gross product to the United States.

Sir, what could a small Island have to offer?

BILLY

Jingo Jakra has an unlimited supply of Zircon sand.

AMANDA

Zircon sand?

LEE

Yeah, Zircon sand is the main ingredient in the metal Zirconium.

Francine cuts Lee off.

(haughtily)

Zirconium is a highly flammable metal used in the arms industry to make tubes and rings for nuclear detonators.

Lee looks at Francine disgusted for her interruption.

LEE

This metal is so flammable you can light a match to the foil and it will ignite into flames.

AMANDA

Oh…

BILLY

Right now, there are only two places where this sand can be found. One is in the US and the other is in Australia.

No wonder someone's trying to kill the King and Cody… I mean Arek.

Amanda is doing more research on Jingo Jakra. Lee opens the door to the library and peeks in.

LEE

Amanda, come on… The King's plane just landed at Dulles. If we hurry, we can talk to him before Ambassador Atol does.

Amanda grabs her purse as Lee holds the door open for her.

AMANDA

This could be quite a shock to the King.

The Embassy is a modest home, surrounded by trees and a high security fence. Lee and Amanda are stopped at the entrance gate in the silver Corvette. The gate buzzer sounds. Lee holds up his I.D. to the camera.

MAN (O.S.)

(mono toned)

Lee turns to Amanda as the buzzer sounds again.

Lee and Amanda sit in the Corvette. Lee a little reluctant to go in.

LEE

That man needs a lesson in diplomacy.

AMANDA

Lee, he's just doing his job.

LEE

(sighing)

I know, it's just that… Here I am, meeting my ex-girlfriends, boyfriend with my wife to give him the bad news and the good news.

AMANDA

(laughing)

Amanda teasingly punches Lee in the shoulder and smiles.

Amanda and Lee are escorted into the large living space. Sitting on the couch is KING AREK ZAVAR, a young man in his thirties.

KING ZAVAR

(slight island accent)

Welcome to my home!

The King gestures to the home surroundings.

LEE

King Zavar.

AMANDA

Your Majesty.

KING ZAVAR

Please, come sit down. Could I get you anything to drink?

Lee and Amanda respond together.

Amanda and Lee sit on the adjacent couch. The King dismisses his butler.

KING ZAVAR

So, what brings the Agency and it's Scarecrow to my Embassy.

Lee looks at Amanda surprised he knows who he is.

AMANDA

Ah, King Zavar, there are a few things that we need to cover.

LEE

When was the last time you seen Eana Lippincott?

KING ZAVAR

I saw Eana about a year ago. She usually calls me every week. Why?

LEE

King Zavar…

The King interrupts Lee.

KING ZAVAR

Please, call me Arek.

Okay, Arek, There's no easy way to say this… Eana was found murdered 2 days ago.

Arek rises and walks to the window.

KING ZAVAR

(shaken)

My Eana? No!

LEE

Do you have any idea who would want to kill her?

KING ZAVAR

Probably the same dissidents that have been plaguing my country. I'm sure you have heard of the attempts on my life.

Arek walks back over to the couch.

LEE

Ambassador Atol, has informed us about the assassination attempts.

KING ZAVAR

(quietly)

And my son, have you seen my son? Is he… dead too?

AMANDA

Arek, he's just fine. Eana has protected him well. Right now, he is staying with some friends of Lee's.

KING ZAVAR

Who knew, having an heir to the throne would create havoc in my country. Is he safe?

AMANDA

(nodding)

He's safe. We seen him just this morning.

LEE

Who else knows about your son?

KING ZAVAR

Just my aide and Ambassador Atol.

LEE

How well do you trust Ambassador Atol?

KING ZAVAR

What do you mean?

AMANDA

Do you think Ambassador Atol could be behind the attempts on your life and the murder of Eana?

KING ZAVAR

Edvard Atol, he's a part of the family… In fact, he becomes King if anything should happen to me and any heirs I may produce.

LEE

He's in a position to create a coup.

KING ZAVAR

What do we do now? Eana always trusted you, Scarecrow. Now, I must trust you with my life as well as my son's.

LEE

First thing, lets give Billy a call and get you to a safe house.

INT. SAFE HOUSE - DAY

Billy, Francine, Lee and King Zavar sit around a table. Embassy house plans and papers on the table are the center of focus and the topic of discussion.

BILLY

That will leave Francine to cover the west entrance.

LEE

Arek, are you sure you want to be bait? We can get Jordan to impersonate you.

KING ZAVAR

Lee, this is something I must do, I have to do it for my son and my country.

BILLY

Okay, now that we all know what we are doing…

A knock sounds on the door and an AGENT opens the door.

Sir, Mrs. King is here.

BILLY

Send her in.

Amanda enters the room caring the young Arek.

AMANDA

Here he is.

A very happy King Zavar takes the baby from Amanda.

KING ZAVAR

(smiling)

Ah, it's been so long…

He's grown so much…

The baby cuddles next to King Zavar, content to be in his arms. The King walks over to the couch

LEE

He's a very good baby.

Lee is watching the interaction of King Zavar and baby Arek. Amanda is touched by this and walks over to Lee.

AMANDA

Everything's going to be okay Lee, he belongs with his father.

LEE

(quietly)

I know…

Lee turns back to Billy and Francine.

Well, we had better get going. There's still a lot of work to be done before tomorrow.

Amanda takes the baby from King Zavar.

AMANDA

Back to your safe house, young fella.

KING ZAVAR

See you soon, son.

He leans over and kisses the top of the boys head.

KING ZAVAR (cont'd)

Thank you Mrs. King, for keeping my son safe.

INT. LEE'S SILVER CORVETTE - AFTERNOON

Lee and Amanda are returning after dropping off the baby at Jeannie Melrose's house.

AMANDA

Jeanie and Arek seemed to have developed a bond.

LEE

(down)

Yeah, he didn't mind being left there.

AMANDA

You miss him, don't you?

I miss him wrapping his little arms around my neck.

AMANDA

There's nothing like the unconditional love of a child.

LEE

Since we finished early we have the rest of the day off, why don't we go over to your house.

AMANDA

We only have till seven o'clock. Joe will be dropping the boys off then.

Lee looks at his watch, then smiles at Amanda.

LEE

(smiling)

Four whole hours alone with my wife…

AMANDA

(smiling seductively)

INT. AMANDA'S KITCHEN - MORNING

Amanda is fixing breakfast as Jamie and Phillip join her.

Jamie, don't forget your report on Imperial China, it's due today.

JAMIE

Got it right here, Mom.

The front door bell rings. Jamie pats his backpack.

AMANDA

Phillip, can you get the front door, it's probably Lee.

Phillip gets up and goes to answer the front door. Jamie puts down his milk glass.

JAMIE

(seriously)

Mom, do you love Lee?

Amanda stops what she is doing and turns to Jamie.

AMANDA

Oh, Jamie. Yeah, I love Lee. And I love you and Phillip too.

JAMIE

I know Mom, I was just wondering…

Phillip and Lee enter the Kitchen, interrupting Jamie.

PHILLIP

(excitedly)

Mom, Lee said that I could drive his car when I get older.

(winking at Lee)

Good morning Lee. Would you like some breakfast?

LEE

No, just some coffee.

JAMIE

Mom always says, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

LEE

(smiling at Jamie)

I know, she keeps getting after me to eat a good breakfast.

Amanda brings a cup of coffee to Lee in the family room. Lee sits down on the sofa.

AMANDA

Someday, I'll get you to eat breakfast.

A horn honks, both boys gather their books, backpacks and jackets.

PHILLIP

Mom, are you going to be home after school?

AMANDA

I should be home by five o'clock. Why?

JAMIE

The boys shut the front door. Amanda picks up her cup of coffee and sits down by Lee.

AMANDA

I wonder what that was all about?

LEE

Sounds like Jamie has something on his mind…

(turning to Amanda)

Good morning Mrs. Stetson.

Lee wraps his arms around Amanda. Pulls her close and kisses her.

AMANDA

Good morning Mr. Stetson. Are you ready to catch an assassin?

All work and no play, makes Scarecrow a dull boy.

Lee cuddles up to Amanda kissing her. Then sighing he releases her and gets up.

AMANDA

Hey, what happened to play?

LEE

Anymore "play" and we will be very late getting to the office.

Amanda gets up picks up the coffee cups and takes them to the kitchen sink.

AMANDA

I'm ready. Shall we go?

INT. IFF LIBRARY - MORNING

Amanda is going through the case file. Lee is sitting at his desk.

LEE

Amanda, what has you so interested in the case file?

AMANDA

I don't know, there's something that is bothering me. We know that Ambassador Atol is the one behind the assassination attempts, but I don't think he is working alone.

Who do you think is helping him?

AMANDA

I don't know. Did Francine run a check on his staff?

LEE

Yeah, everyone came up clean.

AMANDA

Someone else could still be involved.

LEE

Right now, I don't think we can trust anyone associated with the King.

Lee lays down the papers he has been looking through. He walks into the vault.

LEE (cont'd) (O.S.)

Amanda?

AMANDA

Hmm!

LEE (O.S.)

Do you know where the file on Junto has gone?

Lee stands in the vault doorway, Amanda looks up at him.

AMANDA

Francine took it a few days ago. Why?

I just remembered something that might help this case.

INT. IFF LIBRARY - DAY

Lee is sifting through the file on Junto. Amanda is waiting patiently while checking the computer. Finally Amanda walks over to Lee.

AMANDA

Lee, what is Junto?

LEE

Junto is the name of a "secret" political syndicate. They mainly work in the Middle East. But lately they have been dabbling in smaller governments all over the world.

AMANDA

Do you think they have something to do with the assassination attempts?

LEE

It wouldn't surprise me… Here it is, just what I thought. One of the members of Junto has been seen coming from the Jingo Jakra Embassy.

AMANDA

(questioning)

So, Junto must be the accomplice of Ambassador Atol. What would they want with Jingo Jakra?

I don't know, but I sure am going to find out.

Billy, Francine, Lee and Amanda stand around King Zavar. The King is putting on a Kevlar vest. Two other agents are in the background.

LEE

There is still time to back out if you want.

KING ZAVAR

No, I must do this.

BILLY

King Zavar, it's almost time. My men are in place. Ambassador Atol is already out there.

Lee turns to Amanda.

LEE

(quietly)

Keep your eyes open. The assassin could be anyone.

AMANDA

I know, Lee. There's something still bothering me about this… I'll feel much better when it's all over with.

BILLY

Lee, Amanda, were ready. You know what to do.

CUT TO:

EXT. JINGO JAKRA EMBASSY - AFTERNOON

All the agents are in place. A group of political people are gathered to hear King Zavar speak about his country. Beside the King is his BODY GUARD, a large black man and his AIDE, a young man in his twenty's. Ambassador Atol is just off to the Left of the aide. Lee is not far away from the Ambassador. Amanda is just off to the side of the stage area. A political DIGNITARY introduces the King. King Zavar steps up to the podium. The guests are clapping. Amanda notices that King Zavar's aide is very nervous and acting strangely.

KING ZAVAR

Thank you, Thank you.

AMANDA

(quietly )

Oh, no… it's his aide.

The clapping continues. Lee is watching Ambassador Atol. The Ambassador steps back. Amanda is trying in suspiciously to get Lee's attention. Lee is watching Ambassador Atol.

KING ZAVAR

As you know my country, Jingo Jakra, is limited on it's resources…

The King's aide pulls out a gun and fires it at the Kings Chest. People are screaming and running for cover. Ambassador Atol moves to escape as Lee tackles him. The King falls to the stage as his body guard falls protectively over him. Billy and Francine are running toward the stage. The aide runs off the stage and towards Amanda. Amanda tries to run but the aide catches up to her and grabs her arm. He puts the gun up to her head. Billy follows the aide and draws down on him.

AIDE

(nervously and sweating)

Back away, Back away or I shoot her!

BILLY

Put the gun down. Let her go.

AIDE

No!

The aide backs away pulling Amanda with him. Lee looks up to see the Aide holding Amanda hostage. He leaves an unconscious Atol on the ground.

BILLY

There is no way out. Let Mrs. King go.

The aide brings the gun away from Amanda and fires toward Billy missing him.

AIDE

She goes with me. Don't come any closer or I shoot her.

Still pulling Amanda backward, they navigate toward the gate. Amanda stumbles on the uneven grass and falls toward the aide throwing him off balance. He lets her go as he stumbles. Amanda quickly moves away from him. The aide is erratically waving the gun around.

BILLY

Give it up. Your not getting out of here.

AIDE

You can't stop me!

The aide, thinking his escape route is clear, turns to run through the gate at the side of the yard. From above Lee slams him down to the ground. The two fight over the gun, getting back to their feet they continue wrestling for the gun. The aide fires it, hitting the gate. Lee deftly removes the gun from the aide and throws it some distance away. Francine and Billy come running brandishing their guns. Lee punches him in the face and he falls to the ground barely conscious. Amanda joins the group a little disheveled.

CUT TO:

EXT. JINGO JAKRA EMBASSY - AFTERNOON

Billy, Lee, Amanda and Francine are finishing up the case. The King's aide and Ambassador Atol are being arrested in the background.

FRANCINE

Ambassador Atol and the King's aide are in custody.

LEE

How's the King?

FRANCINE

He's going to have a bruise. Good thing he was wearing that vest. Who would have thought his aide was in on this too.

AMANDA

That's what was bothering me…

FRANCINE

What was bothering you?

AMANDA

The accomplice to Ambassador Atol. He had to be someone who was also on the inside. He had to know where the King was at all times...

AMANDA (cont'd)

Ambassador Atol didn't know where the King was when the attempts were made in Jingo Jakra. And the Junto have never been to Jingo Jakra.

LEE

Yeah, so with out the aides help, Ambassador Atol wouldn't have know a thing about the attempts on the Kings life.

AMANDA

You know, I think the aide is a member of Junto. That would give Junto the opportunity to sabotage the Jingo Jarkarian government. The coup, didn't the aide start working for the King just before the coup began?

FRANCINE

He came to work for the King about a month before the civil disturbances began.

BILLY

Creating political disruptions is a specialty of Junto. Good job gang. Junto will be taking a step back after this one.

King Zavar and his body guard walk up to the group. The King rubbing his chest where the bullet had hit the vest.

KING ZAVAR

Thank you, Scarecrow. You have saved my son and my country. Eana was right to have gone to you for help.

I'm glad to have been able to help. Eana was a very special girl. I just wish she could have contacted me sooner, maybe I could have protected her as well as little Arek.

KING ZAVAR

I know you would have done everything you could have to protect her. Now, with Ambassador Atol no longer a diplomat I expect him to be prosecuted here for Eana's death.

BILLY

I'm sure the government will do everything they can to see he is punished.

KING ZAVAR

(smiling)

Now, Mrs. King, I am ready to see my son.

INT. KING HOUSE FAMILY ROOM - AFTERNOON

Amanda is sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper about the thwarted assassination attempt on King Zavar. Jamie comes in the back door.

JAMIE

Hi Mom.

AMANDA

Hi, how did school go? Did your teacher like your report on Imperial China?

(sighing)

He didn't have time to read it today. But I got a 98 on my algebra test.

AMANDA

Great, I knew you could do it. Come here.

Amanda pats the cushion next to her. Jamie comes around and sits next to her.

AMANDA (cont'd)

What's the matter Jamie? I know we got interrupted this morning…

What did you want to talk about?

JAMIE

(serious)

Are you and Lee going to get married?

Amanda is taken back a little by this question. Not sure exactly how to answer it she picks up Jamie's hands in hers.

AMANDA

Oh, Jamie, is that what's been troubling you? Don't you like Lee?

JAMIE

Yeah, he's ok.

AMANDA

I know he really likes you and Phillip.

JAMIE

He does?

AMANDA

Yeah, he really enjoys spending time with you guys… would it be so bad if we did get married?

JAMIE

No, I guess not.

AMANDA

(light heartedly)

Good, I really love you guys. Now, go upstairs and do your homework.

JAMIE

Jamie runs up the stairs. Out of the "shadows" Lee watches the exchange. Relieved to see everything ok he opens the back door.

LEE

Hi, how did everything go?

AMANDA

I think everything will be okay.

LEE

(proudly)

Good. He's such a good kid.

AMANDA

(smiling)

Said like a proud father.

LEE

I just wish the boys knew. It would make it so much easier on all of us.

Lee hangs up the phone. Amanda is coming out of the vault. She crosses and sits down at her desk.

That was Billy, King Zavar was a big hit at the Trade Symposium.

AMANDA

That's great. Now that Ambassador Atol and his aide are behind bars the King can get to know his son.

LEE

Yeah, you know… I wouldn't mind having a son or daughter like little Arek.

AMANDA

Well Lee…

Amanda is interrupted by the phone ringing. Lee picks up the phone.

LEE

It's for you, it's Joe.

(relieved)

Hmm, I wonder what he wants…

(answering the phone)

Hi Joe… That's great… When?

I think that would be great. See you then.. Bye.

Amanda hangs up the phone. Smiling she turns to Lee who is working on the computer.

LEE

What did Joe want?

AMANDA

He called to tell me he won four tickets to tonight's baseball game. He asked if the boys could go.

LEE

That game was sold out by Wednesday. So, you are going to let the boys go?

AMANDA

Yeah, he's going to keep them till Saturday…

LEE

So, does that mean we will have the whole house to ourselves…

As Lee gets up to walk over to Amanda's desk, the phone rings again. Amanda picks it up.

AMANDA

International Federal Film… Just a minute.

Amanda confused, hands the phone to Lee.

AMANDA (cont'd)

It's for you.

LEE

(disgusted)

Stetson… What do you mean… Not again!

Lee hangs up the phone and looks at Amanda.

AMANDA

What did Mrs. Marsden want?

LEE

She said there was another delivery.

AMANDA

You're kidding…

LEE

Every time we get the chance to be alone… something always happens.

INT. IFF LOBBY - AFTERNOON

Lee carefully walks up to the desk. Mrs. Marsden pulls out a basket from the side of the desk.

MRS. MARSDEN

This is for you Lee.

Lee carefully looks into the basket. Relieved to see a bottle of wine and two glasses. Lee looks at the note attached to the handle.

LEE

(smiling)

It's from King Zavar. It's a thank you for taking good care of his son. How about we call it a day.

AMANDA

That sounds good to me. Last weekend we worked.

CUT TO:

INT. KING HOUSE MASTER BEDROOM - SATURDAY MORNING

Amanda is in the master bathroom. Lee is searching all around the room. The bed is unmade.

LEE

Amanda have you seen my watch?

AMANDA (O.S.)

Yeah… It's in the top drawer of my dressing table.

Lee opens the drawer and pulls out his watch then notices the box and papers. Lee picks up the test.

LEE

(confused)

What's this?

Amanda pops her head around the corner of the bathroom door.

What's what?

Amanda looks at what Lee is holding and pales.

AMANDA (cont'd)

( quietly )

Oh.. no…

Amanda, in her robe, walks over to the bed and sits down. She looks at the floor as Lee comes over to her and kneels in front of her.

LEE

(concerned)

Amanda what's this… I found it by my watch.

AMANDA

(lost for words)

Ah.. mmmm… Lee..

LEE

Yes.

AMANDA

I was going to tell you. I just didn’t know when or how. I guess I should just come out with it.

LEE

With what?

Amanda looks into Lee's eyes. Gathering strength she continues.

Lee… I'm pregnant! That's a positive pregnancy test you are holding.

Lee looks at Amanda not realizing what was just said. He sits next to her on the bed dazed. Amanda puts her hand on Lee's hand.

LEE

Your pregnant?

INT. KING HOUSE FAMILY ROOM - MID MORNING

Lee is sitting on the sofa, floored, flabbergasted by the news. He runs his hand through his hair. Amanda is pouring a cup of coffee.

AMANDA

Lee… are you alright? You look ill.

LEE

Amanda, are you sure?

AMANDA

Yes, I'm sure…

Amanda hands a cup to Lee. She sits down next to him.

AMANDA (cont'd)

Aren't you going to say something?

LEE

I… don't know what to say…

How long have you known?

Just a few days, but we were so busy with Arek and the King… There just wasn't the right time to tell you…

Lee puts down his cup and takes Amanda's tea from her and sets it by his coffee. Taking her hands in his he turns towards her.

LEE

Were having a baby? You and me…

I'm going to be a father…

AMANDA

(nodding, unsure)

Yeah…

LEE

Oh, Amanda, that is the best gift I could ever get, of course, second to the day I married you.

Lee pulls her into his arms, kissing her.

LEE (cont'd)

I love you, Mrs. Stetson.

AMANDA

I love you too, Mr. Stetson.

Amanda pulls back and looks up at Lee. Relived that Lee is also happy about the baby.

Lee, what are we going to tell mother and the boys? I can't hide this for very long.

Amanda puts her hand on her abdomen. Lee places his hand on hers.

LEE

Ah, your mother and the boys…

AMANDA

What about Billy and Francine…

Well, it won't be too much of a surprise to Billy, but I can't wait to see the look on Francine's face.

AMANDA

Lee, seriously, we have to tell mother and the boys soon. Mother's going to know something's going on. She knew as soon as I was pregnant with the boys.

The sound of the front door opening and Phillip and Jaime talking about Phillip's new girlfriend. Disrupts Lee and Amanda's discussion. Jamie and Phillip stop at the doorway to the family room.

(excitedly)

Mom! Lee! That game was great!

Lee tries to extricate himself from Amanda. Amanda doesn't let him, she holds his hands in place.

Amanda pats the sofa next to her. The boys come over to sit by her. Jamie is a little reluctant, Phillip energetically sits down.

AMANDA (cont'd)

Boy's, come sit down, Lee and I would like to talk to you.

Lee shifts uncomfortably.

LEE

Amanda, Now?

JAMIE

Amanda pulls the boys into her arms.

AMANDA

You know when I said there were special reasons?

PHILLIP

AMANDA

Jamie?

JAMIE

Yeah, I remember.

AMANDA

Well, for these reasons, Lee and I couldn't tell anyone.

JAMIE

Grandma doesn't know?

AMANDA

Nope! You and Phillip are the very first we have told.

Jamie sits with his head down, Amanda tilts his chin up to look at him.

AMANDA

Jamie, are you okay with this?

LEE

Jamie, Phillip, I love your mother very much…

JAMIE

Why didn't you tell me Monday?

Amanda looks up at Lee for support.

LEE

Jamie, your mother and I made a promise to each other not to tell anyone, we wanted to tell you together.

Lee puts his arm around Amanda who is still holding the boys.

JAMIE

I love you mom, are you happy?

AMANDA

(proudly)

Oh, yeah… I'm happy. I have my boys and my husband who loves me…

Are you boys happy?

PHILLIP

Yeah mom.

LEE

Jamie, I really like you and Phillip. Do you think you guys will mind sharing your mom with me?

The boys reply in unison.

JAMIE

I guess so.

PHILLIP

AMANDA

I won't mind sharing Lee with you boys…

Amanda ruffles the boys hair.

AMANDA (cont'd)

How bout we get a pizza fro lunch.

The 'guys' all answer at the same time.

PHILLIP

JAMIE

(happy)

Sounds great! I'm starved.

AMANDA

Okay, boys. Put your stuff in your room and will go.

The boys run upstairs. Lee pulls Amanda back into his arms and kisses her.

LEE

There for a minute, I thought you were going to tell them about the baby…

AMANDA

(smiling)

I had you squirming there for a second…

(patting her abdomen)

This little secret we can keep for a little longer.

LEE

(smiling, happy)

I want the boys to get used to our marriage first.

AMANDA

On the way to Pauly's House of Pizza, I have a little stop I want to make…

Amanda and Lee get off the sofa as the boys come back in to the family room.
